What is patina?
Patina is a natural process that occurs on the surface of metals such as brass and copper, under the influence of contact with air, moisture and other external factors. Over time, a thin layer forms on the metal, which can have a different color – from darker shades to a characteristic green bloom. Although patina is a result of metal aging, it also serves a protective function by preventing further corrosion.
This is not a defect – that's their charm. Patinating makes each piece unique and gives it a noble appearance.
Does patina indicate damage?
NO. Patina is not a defect – is a natural reaction of the material with the environment. It occurs faster in places that are heavily used (e.g. kitchen drawers) and may look different on each piece. This is a typical feature of unpainted brass or copper products

How to remove patina?
If the patina does not suit you, you can safely remove it. The best way to do this is to use special cleaning agents designed for non-ferrous metals, such as: Cleaner PUTS.
It is a gentle and natural preparation that is great for cleaning brass, copper, and other metals such as chrome or stainless steel. It is recommended to test in an inconspicuous place.
How to use PUTS?
1. Safety – Before starting cleaning, always put on protective gloves to protect your skin and also protect the surrounding area, e.g. countertop to avoid unwanted discoloration.
2. Prepare the surface – First, remove any dirt from the handle, e.g. wiping it dry to prepare it for cleaning.
3. Application of the agent – Shake the PUTS bottle well, apply a few drops to a damp sponge or cloth.
4. Cleaning – Wipe the handle in circular motions to remove patina and dirt.
5. Rinsing – Be sure to rinse the sponge or cloth thoroughly with water to remove any remaining detergent.
6. Drying out – Finally, wipe the handle dry with a soft cloth.
Note: Always choose soft materials to avoid scratching the surface. Avoid abrasive scourers that can damage the metal.
How to prevent patina from forming
If you want your handles to have a long-lasting appearance and want to avoid the natural patination process, varnished products are the best solution. The painted surface protects the metal from contact with external factors and maintains its aesthetics for longer.
